Lovćen National Park Guide from Kotor Cruise Port
Switchback road and mountain mausoleum — all of Montenegro visible from Lovćen.
Distance
25 km / 45–60 min drive from Kotor port
Travel time
45–60 minutes each way via Kotor Serpentine
Time needed
Allow 4–5 hours including drive and mausoleum
Lovćen National Park rises above Kotor via the famous Kotor Serpentine — 25 hairpin bends climbing to the Njegoš Mausoleum at 1,657 metres. On clear days the view spans the entire Bay of Kotor, Lake Skadar and Albania.
Cruise ships dock at the Port of Kotor, within walking distance of the UNESCO-listed Old Town. Allow 5–10 minutes on foot to the Sea Gate or 2–3 minutes by taxi. The Bay of Kotor arrival is one of Europe's most spectacular — plan to be on deck. Confirm your all-aboard time and keep a 60–90 minute buffer before departure.
The drive from Kotor port takes 45–60 minutes each way on winding mountain roads. Allow 45–60 minutes at the mausoleum — 461 steps to the summit viewpoint (or lift available). Cooler temperatures than sea level make this a refreshing summer escape.
Lovćen is a full half-day or longer — not combinable with Perast, Blue Cave and fortress on one standard call. Choose Lovćen when mountain scenery and Njegoš heritage matter more than Old Town depth.
How to get there from the cruise port
| Method | Detail | Time | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Walk from cruise port | Flat waterfront route along the harbour to the Sea Gate — Old Town's main entrance. | 5–10 min | Free |
| Taxi from port | Metered taxis at the terminal rank — fastest in heat or with limited mobility. | 2–3 min | €3–6 |
| Shore excursion | Coach, minivan or walking tour with guide and return timed to all-aboard. | Door-to-door | Tour price |
Times and costs are indicative. Always keep a 60–90 minute buffer before all-aboard.

Lovćen on a standard port day?▼
Yes on 8+ hour calls as your single anchor excursion — not alongside Perast and fortress.
Is Lovćen suitable for limited mobility?▼
Mausoleum has a lift option; serpentine drive still involves mountain road. Private tours offer best pacing.
